{ } her handmaiden's were a lovely assortment of young women. they were dressed in light and flowing material, the flesh of their arms and bellies exposed to the stagnant heat that filled this place to the brim. their movements were graceful and their smiles bright and genuine in nature as they surrounded their princess. all were around her age, and had served her faithfully and joyously throughout the years. "how are you fairing, princess?" they were settled within the confines of a lengthy hallway, idling about as azira peered out of a sizable window - for it granted her access to a superb viewing of the kingdom. the heir rarely ever grew bored with observing her people as they milled about in predictable little patterns. she had been silent for a good while, so she wasn't particularly surprised by the light and politely-worded verbal prodding. "simply taking stock of my kingdom and it's people," she replied. azira would pause briefly before shooting a glance over her shoulder. " you are dismissed; i've little need of you at the moment." her servants would glance at one another, uncertainty pinching at their prettied features. " i will call upon you later," she reassured, awarding them with a rare smile. " i just desire a moment for myself." "of course, milady." they would bow deeply and take their leave, and azira would observe them as they did so, secretly relishing the sight of their swaying hips and daintily taken steps. eventually, she would tug her gaze back to the window, leaning against it and enjoying the peaceful silence of the emptied hall's interior. 'Cause I just can't look its killing me and taking control. Jealousy, turning saints into the sea swimming through sick lullabies, choking on your alibi. But it's just the price I pay, destiny is calling me. Open up my eager eyes, 'cause I'm Mr. Brightside | Rarely did Ray venture outside the confines of his room or the musty air of the library. But today he felt the need to stretch his wary legs and walk a bit. A book was tucked protectively under his arm as he ambled slowly down the halls, turning left and right without any prejudice. Ray allowed his mind to wander off as he continued down a stray hallway he barely recognized. His quarters were on the other side of the keep so he generally didn't have a need to walk in this area.
Here he located a small bench that faced a curtained window. Pulling it back he grimaced at the terrible view awarded him and quickly closed the red velvet. Sighing he continued on his journey, not paying much attention to anything, his eyes wandering carelessly.
Eventually his steps brought him to a larger set of hallways that he didn't recognize. A few handmaidens breezed past him, their feet barely making any sound on the floor beneath them. Ray moved to the side of the room, keeping a safe distance between himself and the young women. He wasn't a fan of speaking or interacting with the servants, and for the most part ignored them as he watched them pass.
After a moment he glanced down the hall and noticed the back of a very familiar head. Oh, great. With a sigh he stepped towards his sister, careful to keep his footfalls as quiet as possible. He grabbed the book from under his arm and opened it to a random page as he closed in on her.
"Well, hello, dear sister." His voice was soft but offered Azira nothing in terms of friendliness. "Fancy seeing you here... Not playing warrior in the courtyard today?" Ray's lip curled up in a small sneer, his eyes never leaving the page of the book before him as he passed her and stopped just a few feet to her left. |

the young woman visibly bristled, rigid as her gaze swiveled toward her blood sibling. the very sneer that had grown familiar over the years presently twisted at his handsome features, and his tone was purposefully tailored to demean her. " brother," she acknowledged. her voice revealed very little, her expression notably stoic as she addressed him directly. she had suffered his presence innumerable times before. he had always been eager to prod and make his distaste of her known. it had surprised and disheartened her somewhat in the past, but now his verbal prodding did little to stir her emotions. azira's desire to simply ignore the petulant male reared - and she was thankful her handmaidens had made their exit. they often grew distraught when her brother waggled his notoriously sharp tongue in their presence. " i have already conducted my exercises for today," she informed. azira moved to face him, her posture perfect and her chin tilted upward. she would purposefully stare down her nose at the taller and more muscular figure before her. his size, after all, did not intimidate her. " it is quite odd to see you here," she said, her tone mockingly conversational. " you are usually hidden away from sight and enjoying the company of your... books." there was the barest hint of distaste present within her words. " and yet you stand before me now," she continued. " 'tis odd. are you, perhaps, venturing toward the dining hall? the evening meal has yet to be prepared, brother." MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

But it's just the price I pay, destiny is calling me. Open up my eager eyes, 'cause I'm Mr. Brightside | Ray felt himself unconsciously grind his teeth as Azira spoke to him. A nasty habit that she tended to bring out in him. He cleared his throat and straightened his back. He usually enjoyed towering over his sister. It was the one thing he had that she couldn't take from him. But in the moment it seemed even more important to show her just who was taller in this family. Clutching his book tighter to his chest he waved off her comment about his books. They couldn't show love, but they also couldn't judge him.
"Hm, at least my hobbies offer something to our Kingdom. Learning more about foreign dignitaries is far more important than waving sword around all willy nilly." Ray glanced at the page before him, irked that he couldn't remember where he had left off previously. Scanning, he eventually gave up and shut the book once more. "You should spend more time learning how to be a proper lady, and Queen." He felt the words thicken in his throat as he said them. "You will be leading this country one day. With a man beside you, one hopefully fit for the job of King."
The thought repulsed Ray. He had never truly figure out what caused his dislike for his sister, aside from her stealing the throne from him. But that really wasn't her fault. That had been their parents decision. She also wasn't protesting against it enough to make him feel better. But he did enjoy bring up marriage to her, given her current tastes in love interests.
Glancing out the window he held back the urge to sigh at her. "Why would I come this way to get food. Besides, I can eat whenever I want, I'm the prince. Remember?" He smirked at Azira, setting his book down on the windowsill and turning to face her finally. "You could do with skipping a meal or two, your cheeks are getting a bit puffy." |
