An outgoing adventurous kind Vala isn't the first image that pops into mind when thinking of royalty. A black sheep among a sea of noblemen and their wives Vala has taken root into much different soil. Beneath the elegant layers of finely spun silk, and golden accessories rests a youthful spirit. Born into the royal house of the Shiver Mountains much was expected from the daughter of it's lone ruler. The playful, and often at times "unlady" like behavior has been scolded since her birth. Yet like the fish of the sea who must swim, and the birds of the skies who must soar nothing could change what Vala was.
While in formal occasions when the lords and ladies of the land pay their respects Vala takes on the stone mask of the ideal princess. Fork on the left, knife on the right, and never speaking unless her mother allowed it. Being such a porcelain doll fills her with vast waves of internal turmoil yet she bares it not only for her kingdom, but her mother as well. Though filled with a life of luxury from sweet pastries to having people waiting at her beaconed call Vala often times hates her life. She is a song bird trapped in a cage. Lovely for those passing by to look at but the beauty is held by iron bars.
To those unfamiliar with Vala such as the commoners of the land they see her as a cold hearted tyrant. Among the people who work in the fields this is the facade she places before herself. Stearn, quick to anger, and able to quell any who seek to discredit her; tis the role she must play. The guise is a sicking one which chips away at her heart. If not for the role she bore in life Vala would never fear for allowing her true self to show. Only a few within a small knitted company truly know what Shiver Mountains princes is like.

Daughter of Queen and King Stormstrider, Vala is the princess of Shiver Mountains, and its only heir. Born into a life of royalty held many perks which Vala came to learn over the years. Rarely did she ever lift a finger with vast servants slaving around the clock to service her needs. Unexpected from a body filled to the brim with royal blood Vala was unlike other princesses who came before. Boisterous, playfully rough, and prone to wandering off often led to many days locked within her room. No matter the punishment nor the times it was executed no one could change who Vala was. Seen as a strong trait in her father, the willpower Vala held would never allow her mind to sway. Of course it was just this which caused her great suffering.
Six years had passed since the joyful day of her birth. Since then Vala had spent much of her life isolated in the confines of the keep which loomed over the rugged mountain range. From atop the keeps walls the vast nature of the world hung before her like a ripe apple hanging from a low branch. With a small stature to aid her Vala escaped from the castle walls within the confines of a cart as it wheeled back down towards the town below. It wasn't long till the heir to the Shiver Mountains throne found herself in a world she had only seen as a speck upon the earth far below. The world that hung under the cusp of her castle walls was nothing she could have imagined. Crude buildings, streets paved in dirt, and a fine layer of grime that no amount of scrubbing could cure. Yet, it was not the town which she long to visit but the lands further off. The snow laden hill sides with their vast green forests. With legs as tiny as her own the trek through the land took some time before she found herself within the confines of the snowy woods.
Cresting along the horizon held the sun as its last rays of light shimmered across a restless land. It was then, among the woods Vala soon released two things. She was alone, and she was lost. Just as she turned back to see a faint sliver of the town that loomed through the trees the land was shrouded in a thick darkness. Frozen tears stuck to her face with a heart that hammered in her chest. Usually surrounded by those who sought nothing but to please her every need Vala's only company was the deadness of night. Unknown, and naive Vala began to wander through the thicket which enveloped her. Tripping over gnarled roots and her own clumsy feet it wasn't long before the shivering form of Vala was battered, and bleeding.
Days had passed since Vala departed from the safety and comfort of her home. Now fresh wounds coated her body that clotted instantly as the fridge air kissed her skin. The clothes she worn were little more than colorful rags that hung loosely to her body as the wilds shredded them with out stretched limbs. Never before had Vala gone a day without food. True hunger was never something she had experienced before and it clawed at her insides begging for nourishment. Yet, a quick learner Vala thirst had never been an issue. Learning from the deer that pranced through the greenery she noticed how they ate the snow which melted into water. Now however she battled constantly with the need to drink and the heat zapping snow which melted in her mouth.
It was on the fourth day with weary legs, and shivering limbs that things came to a head. Having come to a stop in the trees where a faint line of sun jutted through the clouds Vala chose to rest in what little warmth she could find. Little arms wrapped around her knees as they were held close to her face trying to draw in what few scraps of remaining heat she held. It was then that she heard it. A beastly roar which that sent shivers down her already fridge spine. Then came the shuddering of the earth that seemed to shake the very world itself. From one side of the small clearing came a mass of brown unlike anything she had seen before. The towering form was the size of cart as it walked on all fours into her line of sight. Shaggy from head to toe in a matted coat of fur with long razor talons that protruded from each toe. Vala had seen dogs before that ran through her court yard, and they were the closest thing she could relate at that moment to what she saw. Yet, unlike the dogs this primitive massive beast filled her with a trembling sense of dread that not even the cold could match.
Vala's first instinct was to run; which turn out to be a mistake. Unknown to Vala even up till this day the lumber beast she later knew of as a bear hadn't even noticed her till that moment. The slipping of dry snow under her booted feet drew its attention onto Vala as she began her weak sprint through the wooden land. Young, and inexperienced Vala knew nothing of this creature. A one thousand slab of meat, and fat the bear took little less than ten seconds before it was upon the small child. With a shuddering force of storm upon a tree the beast clawed a swath through Vala's back side. Had it not been for Vala slipping at just that moment she would have surely died. The world spun about as Vala went sailing through the air before toppling down in a fresh heap of snow that quickly turned red.
What happened next no one knew. It wasn't until days later that Vala awoke to find herself back in her chambers where her mother's sat by her bed side. The story Vala was told was that a passing merchant had seen a towering plume of snow that shot out from the forests depths. When arriving he found Vala unconsciousness and nearby posed to strike was the frozen corpse of a brown bear. Doing his best to patch Vala up he had taken her to local town where guardsmen eventually put two and two together and realized who she was. When the tale was told to the Queen she had surmised that Vala's latent magical abilities had manifested to protect her at the last moment. Had it not been for the bitter temperatures that clotted her blood, and shear luck Vala might not have lived.
For some time Vala found herself bed ridden as she recovered from her injuries. Aside from the scars upon her back there were no lasting damages from her visit to the wilderness. After that point in her life Vala wished for nothing more to do with the wilds; though it wasn't as though she had much say in matter. Having guardsmen station by her side every waking moment of the day Vala found no more chances to escape the stone castle. It was her home, and her prison.
Not wanting another life threating episode Vala's house arrest was also coupled with lessons of high living. Proper posture, manners, etiquette when addressing nobles, and various other areas of studying. As one could imagine such things were quiet bothersome and boring to one as active as a child is. However, being trapped within her house she found there was very little else she could do and the fear of going outside once more was terrifying to say the least.
As the years progressed Vala found the tedious life style was starting to wear thin. Every day since she left her death bed had been the same. Get up, wash, get dressed, style her hair, and eat breakfast. From there it was lessons, followed by lessons, then lessons, lessons, lessons, followed by more lessons, then lunch, and more lessons. It was a sicking pattern; one in which was slowly driving her insane. Yet, what was she to do? The world outside the walls was as she learned dangerous. It had been shear luck that she had survived her first encounter but how much longer could she stand this repetitive life style before it killed her? Finally she found some small joy in her otherwise bleak life. Magic.
Out in the woods were she lay lost for several days it had been her magical ability of frost which saved her skin. Since that day the thought never crossed her mind that maybe she could harness more than she had already. Her days went from lessons of lordly like behavior to studying the magical craft she had been gifted with. Seeking no tutor Vala practiced of her own accord through trail and error till she began to make improvements. It started off slowly by merely conjuring snow balls to pelt unknowing sentries till she could cast blizzards from her palms as if it was as easy as breathing. It was also during this period in which she learned she had some potential for alchemy; converting one substance into another through magical means. While practiced along side her frost abilities it took much greater effort and study to increase its strength.
Little has changed in the last few years of Vala's life. Most of her days now are spent deep within books, or at elegant banquets when shes not being pampered or sleeping. Though there is a wander lust starting to fill her within. After all the years of fearing the wilds and dangers that lurk within Vala wishes to rise above her fears and see what the world truly has to offer.
